The Americans have gone 2-1-1 in their last four outings on the road, picking up five of a possible eight points, including two big points against the Fort Worth Brahmas Friday evening to hold onto first place in the Central Hockey League standings.
A goal filled opening frame got off to a quick start for Allen when Adam Pineault netted his 12th goal of the year on the power play, assisted by Anthony Maiani and Jamie Schaafsma at 7:11 of the first period.
Then Kale Kerbashian lit the lamp for the 8th time this season 1:11 later off a heads up feed by Chris Doyle to extend the Americans lead to 2-0.
Missouri answered right back on the power play to cut the Americans lead to 2-1 when Sebastian Thinel found Colt King in the slot who tucked one in at 12:00; the secondary assist went to Kyle Hood.
John-Scott Dickson then knotted the game for the Mavericks at 2-2 with his marker at 14:08, assisted by Trevor Kell and Colt King. Allen held a slight edge in shots on goal at 15-14 by periods end.
Allen regained the lead early in the second period on Jim McKenzie’s first goal of the year, assisted by Chris Doyle and Drew Daniels at the 1:59 mark. The score remained unchanged through the middle frame with the Missouri Mavericks out shooting the Americans 13-9 for a two period total 27-24 in favor of Missouri.
Missouri tied the game just 50 seconds into the third period when Trevor Kell popped one past Aaron Dell, assisted by John-Scott Dickson and Colt King.
Adam Pineault then netted his second of the night, unassisted and short-handed; to give the Americans back the lead at 6:21, 4-3.
The Americans penalty killing unit was called on heavily in the third period, shutting down back to back five-on-three power plays for the Mavericks, led by the excellent goalkeeping of Aaron Dell. With 32.1 seconds remaining on the clock, Trevor Ludwig sent one the length of the ice to score on the empty net to cement the Americans victory 5-3.
