PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Allen Americans @ Fort Worth Brahmas 01/08/13

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Allen Americans began a three-game set against their cross-town rivals the Fort Worth Brahmas Tuesday night. It was the sixth meeting between the two clubs this season in the battle of the Metroplex with Allen leading the season series 4-1, dropping the sole loss in the second meeting between the teams.    Allen jumped on the board first at the 3:05 mark when Kip Brennan netted his 3rd goal of the season and his third point in the last three games, Brian McMillin and Adam Pineault contributed with the assists. The Americans extended their lead when Jamie Schaafsma and Jason Deitsch connected on a pair of pretty passes to feed an open Ryley Grantham in the slot for his 5th goal of the season at 7:27. Fort Worth held a slight lead in shots, edging the Americans 9-8 in the period but down 2-0 on the scoreboard as the period ended.   It took until the second period for the first power play of the game but the Americans wasted no time taking advantage as Darryl Bootland scored his 16th goal of the season, assisted by Brett Skinner and Tyler Ludwig at 5:09 to take the 3-0 lead. The Brahmas answered back soon after with a power play goal of their own when Tomas Klempa redirected an Erik Spady shot at 12:04, the secondary assist went to Sy Nutkevich. Fort Worth continued to lead in shots on net with 11-9 in the second period and a two period shot count 20-17 but trailed Allen on the score sheet 3-1.   In the third period, Allen regained their three goal lead on Kip Brennan’s second goal of the night, burying a shot at 7:03 assisted by Jamie Schaafsma and Jason Deitsch. That three goal lead would be short-lived however; a little over two minutes later the Brahmas cut the Americans lead in half 4-2, on a goal by John Snowden assisted by Shawn Szydlowski and Nick Schneider. Snowden then recorded his second goal of the night on the power play to bring the score to within one for the Brahmas at 18:49; assists went to Erik Spady and Shawn Szydlowski on the Snowden marker. It was not enough however as time ran out on the Brahmas comeback attempt and they fell to the Allen Americans 4-3. Fort Worth again out shot the Americans 14-8 in the third period with a three period total 34-25.   The victory over the Brahmas is the Americans seventh straight win, with the team going 11-0-1 in their last twelve games and improving to 24-5-2 on the season, staying in first place in the Central Hockey League standings.
