MELBOURNE, Australia – The Adelaide Adrenaline and Melbourne Mustangs renewed acquaintances this past Saturday in Melbourne. Both teams are fighting for position as the post season nears in the AIHL. The Adrenaline took a 2-1 lead to the first intermission as James Keane and Matt Clark staked the visitors to a 2-0 lead before Pat O’Kane potted a shorthanded goal in the waning minutes of the opening frame.
The Mustangs added two goals in the second to build a 3-2 lead of their own heading to the third. Melbourne could not hold that one-goal lead as the Adrenaline took a 4-3 lead mid-way through the final period. It took a Melbourne goal by Jack McCoy to tie the score at 4 all and force overtime.
Rick Perry earned the “W” for Adelaide when he stopped all three shooters for the Mustangs in the shootout. In total, Perry stopped 28 of 32 shots.
With the results of the match the Adrenaline and Mustangs were tied in the ladder with 30 points each but Melbourne has two games in-hand on Adelaide.
