PHN Photo Essay – Wichita Thunder @ Tulsa Oilers 11/25/11

TULSA – Okla. – Wichita snapped a three losing skid to the Tulsa Oilers Friday night, scoring two third period goals en route to a 4-2 win at the BOK Center. Aaron Davis had two goals and Adam Russo was spectacular in net helping Wichita to its 10th win of the season.
Tulsa got on the board first with a power play goal as Jay Sprague put a one timer past Russo to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. Tulsa has scored first in four of the five meetings between the two teams this season.
Matt Robinson scored his third goal in two games and fifth of the season to tie the game at one just eight seconds into a Thunder power play. Alex Bourret, who had three assists in Wednesday night’s game, made a beautiful pass to the slot and Robinson’s one-timer beat Oiler goalie Ian Keserich.
In the second period, Gary Steffes gave Tulsa a brief 2-1 lead with a power play goal after he snuck it inside the far post and scored his sixth of the year.
Less than two minutes later, Wichita’s Jarred Mohr sent a wrister towards the net, the puck squirted through Keserich and Aaron Davis pushed it over the goal line to tie the game at two.
With five minutes left in the third, Davis notched his second of the game as he caught a pass in the right wing corner, moved around the net and roofed a backhand past Keserich to give Wichita its first lead of the game, 3-2.
Russo was outstanding, stopping 27 of 29 shots, many of which were in close and earned his seventh victory of the season.
Brett Hemingway added an empty net goal to give Wichita a 4-2 win, improving the Thunder’s record to 10-4-0 overall and a second place tie with Tulsa with 20 points.
