NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Texas Brahmas found themselves down 2-0 early to the visiting Wichita Thunder on Friday night, but completed their comeback behind two third-period goals from rookie forward Kyle Howarth to win 3-2.
The Thunder got out in front within the first minute of the game as Alex Bourret scored on a penalty shot at the 0:47 mark of the first period. Wichita added another goal at the 15:26 mark to take a 2-0 when Kevin Seibel scored his first goal of the season. Just three minutes later though, Phil Fox weaved his way through the Thunder defense and put the puck past goalie Adam Russo for his seventh goal of the season, bringing the Brahmas within one at the end of the first period. After a scoreless second frame, Kyle Howarth tied the game 10 minutes into the third period off of a setup from alternate captain Chad Woollard. For Howarth, it was his third goal of the season, but he was not done yet. With only 48 seconds remaining in regulation, Howarth added his second goal of the night, giving the Brahmas their first lead of the game and the eventual game-winner. Texas netminder Mark Guggenberger had another strong outing, saving 23 of the 25 shots fired by the Thunder. Guggenberger improved to 7-1-1 on the season and lowered his league-best GAA to 2.16.
