TULSA, Okla. – The Missouri Mavericks dominated the Tulsa Oilers with a 6-2 road win last Tuesday night at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Brandon Coccimiglio registered three assists and Patrick Schafer scored twice as the Mavericks won their fourth straight game and eighth out of their last nine outings. Goaltender Charlie Effinger stopped 21 of 23 shots and five different players had multiple points in the effort. “Again, it was a great team performance,” Mavericks’ Head Coach Scott Hillman said. “We saw more self sacrifice, more putting the body on the line tonight in terms of blocking shots and hitting than we have all season.” The Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on a pair of goals by Schafer. After a hooking penalty to Schafer was killed, he buried his first goal at the 8:22 mark. Coccimiglio fed Schafer from behind the net and Schafer redirected the puck into the net as he was falling to the ice. Mike Wakita earned the second assist on the play, but the Mavericks weren’t finished. After two more successful penalty kills, Schafer struck again on a nice centering feed from Carlyle Lewis and the Mavericks took a 2-0 lead. Brad Good was credited with the second assist as the Mavericks skated to a two-goal lead and a 9-6 edge in shots through the first 20 minutes of action. It was more Mavericks in the second period as they took a 4-1 lead through two periods. Dave Pszenyczny gave Missouri a 3-1 lead at the 11:27 mark when he scored a power play goal on assists from Coccimiglio and Thinel. At 16:07, Thinel scored his 12th goal of the season when his shot trickled over the goal line after it was partially blocked by Tulsa goaltender Steve Christie. Dale Mahovsky assisted on the play for his 20th assist of the season. Missouri continued to poor it on in the third period with another pair of goals. All-star forward Andrew Courtney scored on a back door pass from Coccimiglio on the power play to give Coccimiglio his third assist of the game. That goal came at the 8:58 mark of the third period, and then Ed McGrane made it a 6-1 game when he scored on a breakaway for his 14th goal of the season. Tulsa scored in the final minute of the game to finalize the scoring 6-2.
