NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Laredo Bucks concluded their four-game road trip with a fruitful visit to the Texas Brahmas on Friday evening.The Bucks snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime win at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
Laredo jumped to an early lead for the second straight game as A.J. Hau scored at 3:31 in the first period. This was Hau’s second goal since his Laredo debut the previous night. Kyle Mariani and Ryan Sparling assisted on the goal.
The Brahmas tied the game when Brendon Hodge banged in the puck at the 12:03 mark, assisted by Chad Woollard and Brock Meadows.
The Bucks out shot the Brahmas 12-9 in the first period of play.
The first half of the middle frame was uneventful until Adam Rivet scored his 5th goal of the year on a wrist shot from the high slot to give the Bucks a 2-1 lead at the 10:09 mark. Rusty Masters earned an assist on the point.
The Brahmas tied the game at 2-2, when defenseman Jacques Perreault scored on a delayed penalty call at 13:23. Jordan Kary and Ross Rouleau were credited with the assists.
The Brahmas out shot the Bucks 7-5 in the second, but the Bucks had a narrow 17-16 shot advantage after 40 minutes.
Ryan Rondeau made several key saves to keep the game tied during the first two minutes of play in the third. The Bucks had their first power play opportunity of the game at 3:02, but were unable to convert.
The Brahmas took the 3-2 lead at 6:52 when Chad Woollard was able to score on a 2-1, assisted by Calin Wild.
The Bucks tied the game 3-3 at 15:55, when Ryan Sparling scored from Justin Styffe and A.J. Hau.
Regulation came to a close with both teams tied at 3-3. It only took 35 seconds into the extra frame before Mark Nebus found the net from Todd Griffith giving the Bucks a 4-3 victory over the Brahmas.
Steve Silverthorn stopped 25 of 29 shots faced and takes the loss. His record goes to 4-5-1. Ryan Rondeau stopped 22 of 25 shots faced and earned the win with the Bucks. His record goes to 1-3-0.
