PETERBOROUGH, UK – The Peterborough Islanders ice hockey club are delighted to welcome back Head Coach Richard Wheatley and assistant coach Ross Mackintosh for the new English National League season.
Whittlesey-based Wheatley led the city side to 8th place in the Division last season and has already begun planning for the new season:
“I’m pleased to be back for the season ahead. Ross and I have sat down and talked over our plans for the new season,” Wheatley said. “I am hoping to retain the core of last years squad but am also looking to make some additions and improve in some areas where we were found ‘lacking’ last season”
Veteran forward Mackintosh is the teams all time leading scorer with 235 goals and 388 points in 229 games for the club, despite missing the end of last season through injury. He is also the last member of the former British Hockey League outfit Aviemore Blackhawks still active in Britain’s senior leagues.
A club spokesman said, “We are delighted to have Ross back on the ice for the coming season. Despite missing part of last season he still racked up more than a goal per game average and brings a wealth of experience to the team.”
