WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Chris Minard scored his fifth goal of the playoffs and added two assists to pace the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 4-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Friday night. The Penguins won the series 4-1 and move on to face the Hershey Bears in the East Division finals. Minard opened the scoring on the power play at 7:30 of the first period, redirecting a hard Jeff Taffe pass past Bridgeport goaltender Peter Mannino. The Sound Tigers replied two minutes later, when Justin DiBenedetto tallied his first professional goal, jamming a rebound of a Junior Lessard wrap-around shot under Penguins goaltender John Curry. Dustin Jeffrey put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead at 5:29 of the second period, chipping a fluttering shot past Mannino. Jean-Michel Daoust extended the lead with what proved to be the series-winner, finishing a play begun by Minard and Jon D’Aversa. Jesse Joensuu brought Bridgeport back to within one goal just over a minute later, potting a rebound of a Jeremy Colliton shot. Taffe scored an insurance goal with less than a minute remaining in the game to close out the Sound Tigers’ season. Bridgeport outshot the Penguins 13 to three in the first period, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton turned the tables and outshot the Sound Tigers 11 to four in the middle frame.
