PEORIA, Ill. – Jordan Pearce sunk the Rivermen in his first career shutout to give Grand Rapids a 3-0 win over Peoria at the Carver Arena, while the Griffins continue a four-game winning streak in the push towards playoffs.
Wrapping up the first of four road games beginning with Peoria (35-24-2-4), the Griffins (30-25-1-8) remain six points behind third-place Toronto and a guaranteed playoff spot. Grand Rapids continues in success, however, winning six of their last seven games and seven of their last nine (7-1-0-2). They look to close the gap as they travel to Oklahoma City on Friday to take on the Barons at 7:05 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center.
A powerplay goal off the stick of Brendan Smith put an end to a scoreless tie with only 21 seconds remaining in the first period giving the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. Both teams battled through the middle frame, but Grand Rapids maintained their lead with critical saves made by Pearce.
Extending the Griffins lead 2-0, Brent Raedeke launched a shot past Jake Allen at 7:24 of the final period. Jamie Johnson was quick to follow with a goal at 12:51 to further the gap 3-0. Pearce assisted Grand Rapids by posting 36 saves in the final of eight match ups against Peoria, while Allen tallied 32 saves.
