NASVILLE TN – The Winnipeg Jets were playing yet another must win game against a Western Conference foe the Nashville Predators and they came away with another huge win as they rode the hot goaltending of Ondrej Pavelec and got a 3-1 win to move into a tie for eighth place in the very tight West.

Pavelec was once again the difference maker as he stood on his head and kicked out 39 shots and was also the games first star.

“So he’s played the same way, believe it or not, that he played prior to,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said of Pavelec. “He’s had a big stretch of really good games and then every once in a while he plays a game like he did tonight.

“I thought – clearly he made some great saves – but I also thought we were pretty good at clearing [the rebound] after it happened. Not necessarily out of the zone, but away from that second one where he couldn’t. If he could see it, for the most part, he had it and his body was still in a really good position on rebounds. He was our best player tonight.”

Nashville outshot the Jets 40-20 and if you include the blocks and misses it was probably would have been over 80 shots on net.

The penalty killing for Winnipeg was once again put the test as they had to kill off six power play chances for the Predators and this was also one of the difference makers in the victory as well.

Winnipeg got goals from Olli Jokinen his 14th , Andrew Ladd his 15th , and Devin Setoguchi got his 11th .

Nashville got its lone marker from rookie Simon Moser who notched his 1st career NHL goal , he was recently recalled from Milwaukee of the AHL.

Jacob Trouba was once again a rock on the blue line and led the Jets with twenty-five minutes of ice time.

Bad news for Winnipeg in this game as James Wright left the game with a lower body injury in the second period , although he doesn’t have a goal this year Wright is a reliable player for Maurice .

“I thought we had a lot going on,” Trotz said. “We created a lot of opportunities. We drew penalties because we were on the puck and we were creating chances. Give them credit. They had a full commitment by everybody. They got a couple big, huge saves…. There’s not too many things I can say that is on a negative front at all.”

The Jets improve to 30-26-6 on the season good for 66 points and are now tied with Dallas for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. They will now head home to face the New York Islanders on Tuesday night in another must win game.
