WAYNE, NJ – Saturday evening the Outlaws were seeking their 14th straight win this time against the Danbury Whalers. This was the eighth meeting between the two teams, they have developed a good rivalry.
Stan Fischler of the MSG Network was on hand for the game and dropped. He was also in the building to do a feature on the Outlaws and the Federal Hockey League.
Matt Miller scored one 1:27 into the game giving the Outlaws an early 1-0 lead.
The Outlaws upped the margin to 2-0 when, at the 9:27 mark of the first period, Matthew Puntureri potted his 10th goal of the season.
On their second power play of the match New Jersey and gave the home side the opportunity to take a commanding lead in the match. The Outlaws scored at the 5:55 mark of the period on a goal by Miller, his second of the game.
The second period started with a crowded penalty box for both sides. In the end of the tabulation, the Outlaws netted a power play advantage.
The Outlaws scored another power play goal to take a 4-0 lead at the 17:22 mark of the second period. This time the marker is picked up by Kevin Cooper.
Following a bout that ensued after the Cooper goal, the Outlaws managed to take a 5-0 lead at the 16:04 mark of the second period. This time the goal was scored by Anthony Battaglia.
Danbury finally scored at the 10:23 mark of the second period to make it a 5-1 game. The goal was scored by Sean O’Malley.
At the second period the Outlaws maintained a 5-1 lead and a 29-15 lead in shots.
The third period was marked by some fast skating and quick action. Neither team was particularly interested in the match with the score lopsided at 5-1.
The Whalers scored at the 9:19 mark of the third period to make it a 5-2 game.
The game ended with the Whalers scoring the only goal of the third period and the Outlaws winning their 14th straight by the score of 5-2.
