WAYNE, New Jersey – The Brooklyn Aviators three-game winning streak was snapped on Thursday night after falling to the New Jersey Outlaws, 6-3, at the Capital One Ice Vault in Federal Hockey League action.
Brett Liscomb had a hat trick for New Jersey and goalie Dan McWhinney stopped 42 shots in the Outlaws victory. Casey Mignone scored twice for the Aviators in the defeat.
The Outlaws wasted little time finding the back of the net in the first period, as Jason Reese wristed a shot past A’s starting netminder Jo St. Pierre 41-seconds into the opening frame. Brooklyn responded with strong play, however New Jersey took a two-goal edge – 2-0 – after Kevin Cooper roofed the puck over the left shoulder of St. Pierre at the 12:08 mark. The Aviators cut the deficit to 2-1 late in the period on Jordan Bernier’s power play marker that came with 5:33 left in the first.
New Jersey did it again to kick off the second frame, but this time it was Liscomb scoring just 38-seconds in. Liscomb’s shot from the left wing circle beat St. Pierre to give the Outlaws a 3-1 lead over Brooklyn. Lawne Snyder quickly put the Outlaws back on the board at the 5:24 mark after his blast from the right point gave New Jersey a 4-1 lead.
Mignone tallied twice in the third period for Brooklyn with goals coming 1:47 apart to cut the Outlaws lead to 4-3. In his first game back after sustaining a facial injury on Dec. 10, Mignoe tallied his first on a rebound in front and then later on the breakaway to pull the A’s to within one halfway through. Liscomb though regained the two-goal edge for the Outlaws with his second of the night 27-seconds later. He added an empty netter to late to seal the 6-3 win for New Jersey.
St. Pierre is charged with the loss after stopping 29 shots for Brooklyn.
Brooklyn finishes their two-game set with the Outlaws on Friday night with another 7:35 p.m tilt at the Ice Vault.
