Ontario crowns Wranglers in 2-0 win

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Wranglers split a two-game series with the Ontario Reign to open 2013, falling 2-0 Wednesday after winning 3-2 Tuesday  afternoon.

An evenly matched first period kept the game scoreless, with the Wranglers narrowly outshooting the Reign 7-5. Midway through the second, the Wranglers had a chance to even the score with 45 seconds of 5-on-3 power play, but were unable to capitalize. With 6:27 left in the period, Reign forward Brodie Sheahan tallied the first goal of the night, giving Ontario the 1-0 lead at the end of the second.

Coming into the third, the Wranglers were still outshooting the Reign 15-14, and with nine minutes left in the game, Wranglers right wing Sean Wiles attempted to score on a shorthanded breakaway but barely missed the net with a Reign player on his heels. Goaltender Joe Fallon was pulled for the Vegas man advantage in the final moments, but the Reign picked up an empty-net goal to collect the 2-0 win.

The Wranglers play two games against the Utah Grizzlies this weekend on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 7:05 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 6, at 2:05 p.m.
