News from the AIHL Canberra still needs help to ice this season

MELBOURNE, Australia – The Gold Coast Blue Tongues announced that they will not be available for the 2014 AIHL season. Midway through 2012 season their home at Bundall Iceland had bad health and safety issues. This forced them to leave their home at Bundall Iceland. They now have 12 months to find a suitable home as agreed with the AIHL, to make it back into the 2015 season.

On February 27th 2014 Canberra Knights and the AIHL Commission announced that the Canberra Knights would be withdrawing from the 2014 season. Canberra Knights were one of the teams that started the AIHL in 2000. This was tragic news for the AIHL and the Ice Hockey in Australia. One of the main reasons provided for the withdrawal is the costs involved, as the AIHL is a volunteer run organisation as well as the clubs that participate in the AIHL.

From the announcement that the Canberra Knights were not going to participate in the AIHL season, there has been an outpouring of support on Face book, Twitter and the local media in Canberra. To try and keep the club going, there was a call out to raise the money needed from the Captain Mark Rummukainen and the remaining players of the Canberra Knights.

From the generosity of the hockey fans and the local community, Canberra Knights were able to raBraveise enough money that has allowed the AIHL Commission grant on the 05th March 2014, the Canberra Knights to be rebranded as the Canberra Braves.

The new logo of the Canberra Brave was launched 06th March 2014.

Canberra Braves still have just under AUD22,000 dollars needed to raise to be able to get the Braves on the Ice each week.

Donations can still be made at

Or check out their face book page

The Canberra Braves Volunteers/ team still have a lot of work to do behind the scenes to be ready for the start of the AIHL season on Sat 12th April when they take on the Sydney Ice dogs at home.

Good luck for the Canberra Braves in season 2014 look forward to seeing you on the Ice.
