PHILADELPHIA, Pa – Probably the last thing anyone living at or near the city of Philadelphia wants to hear is the word “frozen” after having to endure one of the worst winters in city history , but this time the word frozen is a good thing. For the first time ever the NCAA Frozen Four comes to South Philly to decide college hockey’s National Champion. The four main participants are: The Boston
Three of the top four ranked teams in the country made it to the F4. North Dakota did not fit that bill ranking 13th. Union comes in first overall followed by Minnesota then BC. Union will take on BC in the opening game tonight at 5pm E3ST followed by Minnesota vs NDU at 830 pm or roughly 30 minutes after the completion of the first game depending on when it finishes. The title game is set for Saturday the 12th at 730 pm Est.
Because of the newly formed Big Ten division, and with the addition of Penn State to Division I hockey last season as an independent, North Dakota did not play Minnesota this season. Union and BC are in different conferences as well so this will be there first matchup this season. BC has won the title three of the past six seasons winning the title in even numbered seasons (2008, 2010, 2012). Union has never won the title while Minnesota has won it five times (1974, 1976, 1979, 2002, 2003), and North Dakota winning it seven times (1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000).
Brian’s Bold Prediction – For as much as I’d love to see Union take the whole thing, one has a feeling BC will find a way to win over Union. NDU is considered an underdog but history shows they aren’t much of an underdog. Look for both games to go overtime but I have Minnesota playing BC for the title with the Golden Gophers coming out on top to win another title
