GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Central Hockey League has announced that Missouri forward Brandon Coccimiglio has been named the Sher-Wood/Central Hockey League Player of the Month for January 2012.
Coccimiglio, 24, was a key contributor and one of the main catalysts for the Mavericks surge in the month of January helping his team to an 8-3-1 record. The Burlington, Ontario native scored eight goals with 10 assists along with a +5 plus/minus rating in 12 games during the month. The Mavericks struggled in December, going 6-7-1, but the start of the New Year was a positive one for Missouri, who won back-to-back games on January 6th and 7th thanks in large part to Coccimiglio. During the Mavericks 4-3 win over Tulsa on January 6th, Coccimiglio scored a pair of goals (including the game winner) and added an assist. The following night, in a 6-3 win over Quad City, the 6′, 2″, 197-pound forward recorded two more goals. Coccimiglio had seven multi-point games in January and scored two goals in one game three times. He also had nine games where he was an even or plus player. On the season, the second-year forward (two games past CHL rookie status) has 31 points (17 G, 14 A) in 33 games. Last season, Coccimiglio played in 20 games with Missouri, scoring 13 points (7 G, 6 A). He also had eight points (4 G, 4 A) in nine post-season contests. Along with his 20 games with Missouri, the young forward played seven games in the ECHL (Greenville, Alaska). Coccimiglio had a solid collegiate career with Mercyhurst College, totaling 35 goals and 42 assists in 111 career games. Missouri is 22-15-4 on the season and is currently in third place in the Turner Conference.
