ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, have announced the signing of 2005 NHL first round pick, Devin Setoguchi to their 2012-13 roster.
Setoguchi, 25, is the first player currently on an NHL contract to join the Reign’s roster. The Taber, Alberta native spent last season with the Minnesota Wild where he earned 36 points (19g, 17a) in 69 games, the third most on the team. After the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot, 195-pound right winger made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks in 2007. He split the 2007-08 season between San Jose and their AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks. He continued playing in the NHL from 2008 until the end of the 2011-12 season recording a total of 195 points (103g, 72a) and 117 penalty minutes in 336 games. Setoguchi has made post-season appearances and finished at the top of his division in four of his five seasons in the NHL, all with San Jose. In 2008-09, the San Jose Sharks earned the President’s Trophy for finishing the regular season with the most points in the league with 117. As a junior, Setoguchi played in the AJHL and WHL for five seasons. He skated with current Reign players Derek Couture and Chris Cloud with the Saskatoon Blades (WHL) throughout his three season run with the team. He racked up 282 points (139g, 143a) and 288 penalty minutes in 317 games. Setoguchi is expected to play his first game with the Reign on Wednesday, Nov. 7 against the San Francisco Bulls and will be wearing number eight.
