PEORIA, Ill – Jeremy Smith was all the Milwaukee Admiral needed on Saturday night in Peoria, as the visitors shut out the Rivermen 3-0. While 4675 fans turned out for “Presidential Candidate Bobblehead Night,” Smith made a clear bid for mayor of Milwaukee, stopping 34 shots, including a 14-shot barrage in the third period.
Mike Moore took a pass from Michael Latta and put it behind Rivermen goaltender Jake Allen at 15:09 of the first period during four-on-four play, staking the Admirals to a 1-0 lead.
Latta assisted on Milwaukee’s second goal, as well. This time he set up Mark Van Guilder just 30 seconds into the second period as the visitors extended their lead to 2-0.
With a man-advantage late in the game, the Rivermen pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Chris Mueller made that backfire with a shorthanded, empty-net goal. Scott Valentine had the assist as the Admirals shut out the Rivermen 3-0.
Smith was stellar in goal, stopping all 34 chances.
Jake Allen took the loss in net, stopping 21 of 23 shots (24 total). Neither team scored on the power play, the Admirals had four chances and the Rivermen six.
The Rivermen have now dropped four games in a row, including three by shut out, all at home.
They try to change their luck on the road with a pair of games in Charlotte on Thursday and Friday before returning to Carver Arena on Saturday to face off against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
