Miller expects successful season

ROMFORD, UK – Tyrone Miller is a player that sometimes divides opinion among fans, but the talented defenceman is set to star for Romford Raiders in the ENL this season, and Miller thinks that the new look Romford team has a good chance of bringing some silverware to Rom Valley Way.

Miller has proved over the last few seasons that he is an excellent defenceman, and is very capable of playing in the EPL still. Despite this Tyrone had no doubts about signing for Romford for the coming season. He said: “I had spoken to a few EPL clubs, but the smaller game schedule in the ENL will free up time for me to see my daughter more, so the ENL was more attractive to me.

“I had been speaking to Danny (Marshall) for quite some time after last season finished. He explained the players he was interested in and what his plans were, which ticked all the right boxes for me. I have no doubt that the season will be one of the most successful and fun ones in a long time.”

Miller is also convinced that the club has made the correct decision in dropping down into the ENL. He added:
“I think it’s the right decision. The teams in the EPL are spending more and more money each season so for Romford to stay there would financially stretch the club. The standard of the ENL has vastly improved over the years and is now a good product. That mixed in with a few old rivalries that have been missing over the last few years, and a team that has a realistic chance of pushing for honours will only help the fan base grow to numbers we used to get in the past.”

This will be the 27 year-old’s eleventh season appearing for the Raiders. During that time he has also appeared for several other clubs, including Chelmsford Chieftains, Slough Jets and Basingstoke Bison. However he considers Romford to be home. He said:
“Romford is my hockey home and always will be. We don’t have the best rink in the world but one thing that can’t be matched anywhere else is the atmosphere when playing at RVW.”

There has been speculation among Romford fans as to who will take over the captaincy this season, with long-time captain Danny Marshall unable to continue due to his new coaching duties. Miller, who has previously worn an ‘A’ for the Raiders, would like to be considered for the honour. He said: “It’s my understanding Danny has not yet made the decision of who will be his successor, but it’s definitely a role I would be interested in!”

Miller is good friends with Marshall, and is backing the new player/coach to hit the ground running with his new role.

“I’m more than confident Danny will do an excellent job, as both a coach and as a player. He stepped up last season when needed and his game was not affected one bit. He has been around a long time and has valuable knowledge and tactical awareness of what is needed to win, and he really knows how to get the boys behind him.”

With Marshall in the driving seat and a strong squad assembled so far, Miller is adamant that the Raiders should bring success back to Rom Valley Way. He said: “I expect us to get a piece of silverware this season, nothing less.”
