KALAMAZOO, Mich – The Southwest Michigan High School Hockey League which consists of local teams from local high schools has chosen the American Cancer Society to benefit from their “Hockey Fights Cancer” event.
This showcase tournament will feature 7 league teams including Mattawan, Portage Northern, United, Blades, Eagles, and Portage Central. They have invited several out of league teams to play in the tournament. Those teams include Holt, Eastside Stars, Muskegon, Monroe, Northern GR Christian, Cheboygan, Central Livonia and Okemos.
Admission is only $5/day for adults and only $3/day for students and seniors. Games will begin at 5 pm on January 28, 2011 and will continue throughout the day on January 29th.
All 14 teams will be working together to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. T-shirts are $15 and will be available for purchase with the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
There are only 300 T-shirts available for purchase so make sure to purchase yours right away. This is the 2nd year the Mattawan hockey program has organized “Hockey Fights Cancer”.
Last year, they raised over $5,000 for a local family in treatment. This year with so many people in need that they have decided to support an organization that can help individuals on all ends of the cancer spectrum from recent diagnosis to survivorship.
