PAPILLION, NEBRASKA – Miami, Nebraska-Omaha and Northern Michigan all skated to sweeps this weekend. The Miami RedHawks would capture the CCHA crown on Friday evening by defeating Bowling Green while Michigan State and Notre Dame took the week off with byes.

Series Reviews:
Alaska at Ohio State
Freshman Andy Taranto has been one the brightest lights for the Nanooks as well as the CCHA this season. On Friday he would lead Alaska past the Buckeyes with three goals putting his season total at 12. Scott Greenham continued his fashionable play in net stopping 33 shots on the evening.
The Buckeyes claimed the bonus point in the shootout Saturday after skating to a 3-3 tie. Neither team ever quite collected the upper hand on the other as both teams would find a gridlock throughout the game. Ohio State outshot Alaska 34-30.
Miami at Bowling Green
With less than three and a half minutes remaining, Jarod Palmer would score his 13th goal this season to give the Miami RedHawks the win. Miami however would not end on a one game win. In defeating Bowling Green on Friday the RedHawks have assured themselves the conference championship. Palmer would open scoring a mere four minutes into the first period for his first of two goals in the win.
A night after clinching the CCHA title, Miami celebrated but blowing out the Falcons. Andy Miele would have four assists for the RedHawks and Jarod Palmer, Jarod Schilling, Chris Wideman, and Pat Cannone would add three points apiece.
Ferris State at Lake Superior
Rick Schofield would score twice and contribute an assist in a four point third period that would give the Lakers the win. Ben Power would add a pair of assists in the process as Lake Superior State would score twice in the final minute after giving up the tie with at the 19:02 mark in the third period.
Despite a late goal by the Lakers Will Acton, the Ferris State Bulldogs had already done enough to take the game and split the series. Mike Embach and Casey Haines would score for Ferris State whom has positioned themselves comfortably in the number two position in the conference.
Michigan at Nebraska-Omaha
The Mavericks would use three first period goals to take an early lead on Michigan. Nebraska-Omaha’s Joey Martin would score twice in the opening frame receiving two assists from teammate Matt Ambroz. Not to be out done, Terry Broadhurst would score twice over the remainder of the game to lead the Mavericks to the win.
Brandon Richardson would lead the Mavericks past Michigan to take the series with a sweep. Richardson would record three assists to give the Mavericks the victory on home ice.
Western Michigan at Northern Michigan
The Broncos did all that they could in order to stay in the game through the first period. However, a persistent offensive threat from Northern Michigan would amass a devastating lead in the second period. Mark Olver would lead the Wildcats with four goals to defeat Western Michigan.
Ray Kaunisto would score both goals for the Wildcats to sweep Western Michigan. Brian Stewart would stop 22 shots on goal to give Northern Michigan the win and the series sweep. J.J. Crew would open up the scoring but would be the lone goal scorer for the Broncos.
