Matthew Myers Returns to Nottingham

NOTTINGHAM, UK – Matthew Myers has returned to the Nottingham Panthers for the 2010-2011 season. After going to the States last season to play in the ECHL, he has returned to the EIHL to play alongside his Nottingham team mates again. Myers played for the Panthers in the 2008-2009 season and for 4 consecutive seasons before that, creating a bond with the fans and an allegiance to the club.

Last season Myers’ attempt at making the grade in the ECHL was hampered by injuries and a mid season transfer of clubs from the Bakersfield Condors to the Johnstown Chiefs. He still managed to play 28 games and claim 8 points, playing more for the Johnstown Chiefs.

The signing of Myers opens up many options for the Panthers, including running with 4 lines next season. This will keep players fresher throughout the games and the season, and will hopefully lead to silverware come the end of the year for Nottingham .

Myers said “ Nottingham were very good when I had the chance to go to America after having already signed with the Panthers last year. It is a great organisation, the fans know what I think of them, it is a lovely arena and I want to do my best for everyone involved.”

Coach Corey Neilson also said “It won’t have done Matt any harm playing in Bakersfield and Johnstown last season and he brings a lot to the table for us. We know what he can do, he can be a surprise package for opponents and it gives me a new batch of options when it comes to filling the last two import berths on the roster.
“Matthew ticks some of the boxes that might otherwise have to be filled by, say, a defenceman who can go forward on the powerplay. Having Matthew in the line-up would be a bonus for any team and the fact that we’ve got him will make the other teams envious. That’s their problem, not ours.” Contact the author Jack.Brazil@Prohockeynews.com
