OXFORD, UK – Oxford City Stars revealed their new import signing today as Polish forward Damian Matla joined the club from Swedish side Osby. Oxford Coach Ken Forshee had hoped to get clearance for Matla to ice last weekend against both Bristol and Cardiff, however the paperwork was not processed in time.
Matla is primarily a defenseman however he can play up front and should be a useful addition to a City Stars squad buoyed by some returnees from injury. It is likely that Matla will be used as a forward to assist Forshee in boosting the teams’ firepower. Prior to his move to Sweden, Matla starred for GKS Tychy in the Polish league where he came up through the junior system. “Damian has Polish Elite league and Swedish league experience” explained Forshee, who made room for the Pole by releasing Swedish goalie Robin Lindva. “He is young and excited for this opportunity. He has a brother that lives in Oxford which he is going to live with, which makes all this possible for us” Matla is set to make his debut next weekend against the Invicta Dynamos in Gillingham. The twenty one year old is undoubtedly in for a baptism of fire against a high flying Dynamos side whom the Stars traditionally struggle against on the road.
