Mallet, Lessard, and Girard named to weekly QMJHL honors

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Alexandre Mallet, Jonathan Lessard and Gabriel Girard respectively of the Rimouski Oceanic, Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Shawinigan Cataractes were named the three stars of the week for the period of December12th to 19th.
 
With 8 points in 2 games the Rimouski Oceanic center Alexandre Mallet earned the Telus first stars of the week in the QMJHL. Coming out as a winner 6-1 over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Friday Mallet has been names the first stars of that game registering his second hat trick of the regular season adding two more assists.
 
On Saturday, in a 6-5 win over the Prince Edward Island Rocket, the Oceanic center ended the game with 1 goal 2 assists and a plus/minus of +3. Mallet earned the second stars of that game.
 
Ending the week with a total of 4 points (3 goals), the QMJHL second stars of the week went to Baie-Comeau right winger Jonathan Lessard. In Tuesday game against Quebec, the Drakkar right winger was best player registering 1 goal 2 assists and a + 1 in the plus/minus category even if his team lost 5-3 against the Remparts.
 
On Friday, a 4-1 win over the Victoriaville Tigres in Victoriaville, Lessard scored Baie-Comeau second goal (game winning goal) with half the game remaining. On Saturday, in a 5-2 wins over Gatineau the Baie-Comeau right winger scored his 100th goal in the QMJHL to complete his hat trick and that goal also became the game winning goal over the Olympiques.
 
The Shawinigan Cataractes goaltender Gabriel Girard was elected Telus third stars of the week beginning with 18 saves on Val-d’Or 19 shots on goal in 3-1 win over the Foreurs on Friday.
 
The Cataractes netminder posted his second shutout in three games in a 7-0 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Winning their last five games Shawinigan head coach Eric Veilleux saw his goaltender finished his week with a 0.50 goal against average and 0.979 save percentage.
 
QMJHL trading period opens Monday December 19: Lots of discussions happened even before the last trading period opened on December 19 but only few (8) were confirmed as of this writing.
 
Only four trades were officially confirmed on opening day. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the Drummondville Voltigeurs were the first two teams that opened the action announcing minor trade, where draft pick changes hand. The Titan sent back the fourth round pick in 2013 previously belonging to Drummondville to the Voltigeurs, in return Drummondville sent a fifth round pick in 2013.
 
The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and the Shawinigan Cataractes confirmed what a persistent rumor between the two teams was. The Armada sent Defenseman Jonathan Narbonne (1992-09-16) to Shawinigan. I return the Cataractes sent to the Armada first and third round (previously belonging to Victoriaville) picks in 2012.
 
The third trade of the day saw Baie-Comeau Drakkar sending defenseman Michael Langlois (1993-03-24) to Cape Breton for Screaming Eagles seventh round pick in 2012.
 
In the last official trades confirmed on first day, Steve Ahern the general manager of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar completed his second trades of the day sending right winger Alexandre Durrette (1992-03-02) and a 2012 first round pick (previously belonging to Victoriaville) to Val-d’Or. In return, the Foreurs sent center Jean-Francois Leblanc (1993-03-03).
 
Two trades happened on Tuesday: Acadie-Bathurst returned the seventh round pick (previously belonging to Rouyn-Noranda) to the Huskies. The Huskies sent no compensation.
 
In Tuesday second trades, the Moncton Wildcats sent left winger Olivier Daoust (1992-11-24) to Gatineau for Olympiques third round pick (previously belonging to Baie-Comeau).
Two trades were confirmed on Wednesday, the first was between the Acadie-Bathurst Titans and the Gatineau Olympiques. The Titan sent Garret Clarke (1992-11-03) to the Olympiques. In return Gatineau sent the fifth (previously belonging to Prince Edward Island Rocket) and ninth round pick in 2012.
 
The second trade saw Danny Chiasson (1992-09-232) and a twelve round selection in 2012 going from Baie-Comeau Drakkar to Saint John, for Sea Dogs eleventh round pick also in 2012.
