Los Angeles Kings lead series 2-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Los Angeles Kings blasted the Blues and lead the Western Conference semifinal series two games to zip, after the 5-2 match.   Monday night’s game belonged to the Kings from early on, as they pounded the net and outshot the Blues 16-5 in the opening frame.
Goals from Mike Richards, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and a second from Kopitar gave the Kings the 4-0 lead after the first period.   The opening goal assisted by Dustin Penner at just 31 seconds into the game. Dustin Brown had an assist on both Kopitar’s goals, while Penner had an assist on the Carter goal.
The second period began with a Blues goal at 18 seconds into action from Andy McDonald, with assists to David Backes and Kris Russell.   The Kings answered back just over a minute later with a goal from Justin Williams, which would be the Kings final goal of the night.
The Blues just couldn’t muster enough to catch up, and a solo Matt D’Agonstini goal in the third at 5:16 would be the only other goal of the game.   The Kings defeated the Blues at home with a final score of 5-2.
The win for the Kings improved Jonathan Quick’s stats to 6-1 in the playoffs with 27 saves for the game.   Both teams’ power plays were insufficient tonight, as the Kings were zero for six and the Blues went zero for nine.
Both teams head to L.A. for game three on Thursday, May 3.
