TULSA, Okla. – As their 20th anniversary season approaches, the Tulsa Oilers announced another important addition to their team on Thursday. Rob Loeber has been hired as Broadcaster and Director of Media Relations for the CHL team after serving in several different positions in the Tulsa area media over the past several years.
Loeber takes over for Steve McCall, who left to become the Vice President of Communications for the Southern Professional Hockey League’s Mississippi Surge in July. McCall, the longest tenured broadcaster in Oilers’ history, spent the last seven years behind the microphone. He was also awarded the 2010-11 CHL Soul of Service Award earlier this year. “Rob has a wealth of experience in sports media and broadcasting,” Oilers General Manager Taylor Hall said. “He is going to be a tremendous addition to our team.” Loeber, a University of Oklahoma graduate, spent four years as a sports photographer, reporter and anchor at the local FOX affiliate, KOKI. He has also served as play-by-play broadcaster for Oral Roberts University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. His work in local sports also includes two years as a high school sports correspondent for Maxpreps.com. Loeber is a USPTA Certified Professional Tennis Instructor and has been a varsity tennis coach at Holland Hall Prep School in Tulsa. His broadcasting career began while he was in college at Valparaiso University where he spent time as a sports and news reporter at campus radio station, WVUR-FM. After transferring to the University of Oklahoma, Loeber was the sports anchor for the nightly, student-run newscast for two years. He graduated in 2004 with a Broadcast Journalism degree. “I feel extremely blessed to have this opportunity to be the new voice of the Oilers,” Loeber said. “Broadcasting hockey has been a dream of mine for many years and I’m very grateful to Jeff Lund (Oilers Owner) and Taylor Hall for giving me this chance to be a part of this franchise.” Loeber’s first game will be at the Allen Event Center on October 21st when the Oilers take on the Allen Americans. Following an October 22nd contest against the Texas Brahmas, Loeber and the squad will return to Tulsa to open the home season against the Wichita Thunder at the BOK Center on October 28th.
