Lockout is over- fans have forgiven

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – After 113 Days, 625 cancelled games and a marathon 16-hour meeting, the NHL and NHLPA finally agreed to a deal to end the lockout. As a former player in the Western Pro and United Hockey leagues and a fan who lives and breathes this game, I watched and waited for this to happen.   If not for stubbornness and arrogance, this deal could have been done a couple months ago.
During this work stoppage there were many other hockey options that were great to watch. The minor hockey leagues, World Juniors and Spengler Cup whet the appetite a bit, but my Canadians had a terrible ending; congrats Team USA on the Gold Medal!
Being from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada the Jets are the only thing these days. My family is all die hard Jets fans and we live and breathe Jets Hockey. So when this Lockout became reality it really hurt not only me, but the whole city as well. They left the city 16 yrs ago, came back last year and then they were gone again.
The lack of hockey was felt financially across the board as many bars, restaurants, lounges, etc. were all losing money. Arena staff had their hours or jobs cut for this fight between Millionaires who were being selfish.
Most of us have heard the sordid details over and over and most of us don’t understand.   All we care about is that our game and our heroes are back! It’s obvious that fans have forgiven as early practices drew over 5,000 fans and more in numerous cities.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman gave an apology to fans everywhere as did numerous Owners and players so it seems like they are sincere. They realize the fans are the ones who spend our hard earned money to pay their wages with ticket, merchandise, and concessions purchases.
One thing is certain after seeing sold out rinks and ratings through the roof. The fans seem to be happy to see the greatest game on earth is back and we will be cheering our team on in pursuit of Lord Stanley’s Cup! Hockey is back! Comment@prohockeynews.com
