CARDIFF, UK – Marc LeFebvre made a dream start to life as Genting Casino Coventry Blaze coach as he guided the team to a 7-3 win at Cardiff Devils in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.
LeFebvre, who took over from Matt Soderstrom this week, witnessed four first-period goals lay the platform for Blaze to return to winning ways.
Devils pulled a goal back on a five-on-three powerplay through Mac Faulkner (12.20) before two goals in 23 seconds from Michael Henrich (14.12) and Ryan Ginand (14.35) fired Blaze 4-1 ahead.
Ginand grabbed his second of the night – and 44th of the season – at 29.33 and Cale Tanaka added a sixth at 38.19 to extend the advantage.
Tomas Kurka (46.27) and Tyson Marsh, a delayed penalty goal at 50.01, saw Devils reduce the deficit but after they pulled netminder Kamil Kosowski, Blaze completed a fantastic night when Michael Henrich grabbed an empty-net marker with 2.13 left.
LeFebvre said: “It was a great team performance. But it is just one game, we cannot rest there. We have 12 games to go to make the play-offs.
“This is a tough building to come in but we made a good start and got the job done.
“All the guys played well, I saw a lot of good things but we also have lots to work on. Our goal is to get better every day.”
