Laredo Bucks announce change in ownership

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Bucks have announced that the team will now have a local majority ownership. At a press conference this afternoon held at the main entrance of the Laredo Energy Arena, Gustavo Hernandez was introduced as the new managing partner of the organization. Hernandez, a Bucks season ticket holder since 2002, has owned a private tax and accounting practice in Laredo for the past 8 years. He is also involved in cattle ranching and real estate and is currently breaking into the oil and gas industry, along with local partners.   Hernandez formed LRD Sports Ventures in June 2011, when Glenn Hart, owner of the Bucks, invited potential investors to become a part of the organization at a Town Hall Meeting. LRD Sports Ventures became minority owners of the team soon after.  Hart and Hernandez, along with the Laredo Bucks staff, have been working together since to continue the success of the organization. Hart’s growing business needs kept him away from Laredo, while Hernandez’s business needs kept him closer to Laredo, therefore a decision was reached for LRD Sports Ventures to obtain majority ownership of the team. Hart still has a large investment in the team.
Hernandez was born and raised in Laredo. He is a graduate of Martin High School and Texas A&M International University.  The Bucks (5-9-0, 10 points), currently ranked last in the Central Hockey League’s Berry Conference, will host the Arizona Sundogs on Wednesday evening in the second contest in a nine-game home stand. They swept the Texas Brahmas in a two-game home-and-home series last weekend. Contact the writer at robert.keith@prohockeynews.com
