Lampasso, Hand, and Christopoulos earn weekly USHL honors

CHICAGO – The United States Hockey League announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the tenth week of the 2012-13 USHL regular season.

Award winners include Christian Lampasso of the Des Moines Buccaneers, who is the CCM Forward of the Week; Peter Hand of the Indiana Ice, selected as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Billy Christopoulos of the Des Moines Buccaneers, who earned honors as Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Christian Lampasso, F, Des Moines Buccaneers: The Bucs were a perfect 3-for-3 this past weekend, due in large part to the efforts of Christian Lampasso. The 18-year-old, Amherst, New York native notched five points on the weekend (4g, 1a), and had a +3 on ice rating. He had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win on Friday against Sioux Falls.  He then tallied the game-winning marker on Saturday in a 5-2 victory against Sioux City, and capped off the weekend by potting a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory over Cedar Rapids on Sunday. Lampasso’s four-goal weekend performance doubled his season total, and he is now tied for third on the team in goals with eight, and in plus/minus with a +9 on ice rating. He is currently riding a three-game point streak, and has at least one goal in seven of his last eight games.

Peter Hand, D, Indiana Ice: Hand led the Ice in scoring this past weekend, putting up five points (1g, 4a) and had a +5 on ice rating.  He posted a +4 on Saturday night, which tied a team season high (Austin Ortega, 10/19 vs. Green Bay). The 19-year-old from Schenectady, New York, assisted on three of Indiana’s four goals in a 7-4 loss in Green Bay on Friday, and would find the score sheet on two of three Ice goals in a 6-3 loss on Saturday, with a goal and an assist. Hand is currently on a three-game point streak, and is second on the team with a +4 rating overall.  Playing in his fourth USHL season, the defenseman has already collected seven points in 12 games, which equals his single-season high during his time in the League.

Billy Christopoulos, G, Des Moines Buccaneers: Christopoulos was in net for two of the three Buccaneers victories this past weekend, posting a 2-0-0 record with a 1.50 goals against average and a .953 save percentage, while only allowing three goals in those two games. The 18-year-old Raleigh, North Carolina native turned aside 25-of-27 shots in a 5-2 win against Sioux City on Friday. His stellar play would continue on Saturday, as he stopped 37-of 38 shots in a 5-1 victory over Sioux Falls. Christopoulos now has wins in five of his last seven starts and ranks sixth overall among USHL goaltenders with a .919 SV%.
