ANCHORAGE, AK – Alaska goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux posted his fourth shut-out in five playoff starts at home in an Aces win over Wranglers 2-0. With the shutout the Aces lead the National Conference championship 1-0.
Just as predicted, this was a fast-paced, hard-hitting, action-packed game. Both teams were scoreless in the first period. Alaska’s Lance Galbraith scored at 14:46 into the second period with an assist by Alexandre Imbeault and Josh Soares. Galbraith put up his fifth goal of the post-season with the wrist shot that passed Glenn Fisher during a power play opportunity.
In the third period, heavy defense, big hits and the wearing down of the Wranglers by the Aces stopped any attempts at scoring. In the last 20 seconds of the game, Fisher was pulled to allow the extra Wranglers skater, but the Aces defense held on tight, as Matt Stefanishion took the puck to the empty net, with assists to Soares and Ryan Turek. The Aces out-shot the Wranglers 32-18.
The shut-out came before a Sullivan Arena crowd of 5,757 and was the club’s 11th consecutive home win in the playoffs. The teams will be at it again on Sunday, May 10.
