HULL, UK – Excel Hull Stingrays can today confirm the signing of British forward Ryan Lake for the 2011/12 Elite League campaign. The local-born 27-year-old returned to Stingrays last summer after four years away having admitted he fell out of love with the game. He posted five goals and five assists in 46 games and was named the club’s Best British Player at the end-of-season awards dinner.
Lake joins player-coach Sylvain Cloutier, Jereme Tendler, Daniel Scott, Tristan Harper, Sam McCluskey, Jason Silverthorn, Dominic Osman, Christian Boucher, Jack Watkins, Dmitri Suur, Frantisek Bakrlik, Andrew Brummitt, Bobby Chamberlain, Josh Mizerek and Derek Campbell on the roster for next season.
Cloutier said: “I am really happy to have Ryan back on board. He is another player who fits what I am looking for – he comes to play every night, he always gives 100% and he is a competitor.
“He might not be the biggest guy out there but he plays as if he is 6ft 2in. You know what you get with Laker. He is a Hull kid, he is proud to play for his home team and he wants his home team to be successful.
“Laker came back last season after some time off and I know what that is like. But I thought he did a good job for us. He will get more chances to play next season and I am expecting more from him.”
Lake played for three seasons with Hull Thunder and also represented Great Britain at Under-18 and Under-20 level. He then spent two years with Sheffield Steelers between 2003 and 2005 and was part of their league and play-off-winning roster in 2004. L ake previously played for Stingrays when the team was plying its trade in the now defunct British National League in 2005/06 and has also iced for London Racers.
