BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Komets enter Saturday’s home game at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne on the heels of a 3-2 come-from-behind shootout win Friday night at Bloomington in the first of a weekend home-and-home series against the PrairieThunder. It was Fort Wayne’s fourth straight road victory. The Thunder posted a 2-0 lead before the Komets rallied for two goals in the second period from Tab Lardner and Artem Podshendyalov to take a knotted 2-2 game into the second intermission. After a scoreless third period and overtime, the Komets prevailed in the shootout 1-0 with Lardner scoring the lone goal in the extra frame for his second shootout game winning goal of the season as the K’s extended their road winning streak to four games. Lardner has goals in each of the last three games for a three-game goal and point-scoring streak (5 goals, 1 assist). Komet goaltender Nick Boucher stopped 32 of 34 shots in regulation and overtime before stopping all five Bloomington shooters in the shootout for his 10th win of the season. Boucher posted his third straight road win and second straight win over Bloomington. Saturday night the Komets (13-17-5) have a chance to make it a four-point weekend when they host the PrairieThunder (20-13-2) at 7:30pm. The Komets have points in 12 of the last 14 games played (8-2-4) for a .714 pace over that span of games.
It was Bloomington’s first loss in shootout after going 3-0 this season. The start of the game was delayed almost two hours, starting at 8:55pm due to the Fort Wayne Komets bus breaking down on route to Bloomington on Friday afternoon. The PrairieThunder organization thanks all of the fans who remained for the game at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
