Komets End Rush’s Season in Game 6 in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Fort Wayne Komets turned the long road trip to Rapid City for a Game 6 into a positive beating the Rush in overtime to advance to the Turner Conference Finals to meet the Missouri Mavericks. Komets Captain Colin Chaulk capped off a strong series by scoring the game winning goal less than a minute into the extra session lifting Fort Wayne to a 4-3 win in Rapid City. The Komets jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind first period goals from defensemen Jamie Lovell and Brent Henley but the Rush would battle back with a first period goal from Les Reaney and a second period power play strike from Scott Wray to tie the game at two heading into the final period. In the third period, the Komets capitalized on a power play late in the game by seeing Jean-Michel Rizk scoring at the 16:00 mark. The Rush then got a chance of their own with a 5-on-3 advantage that turned into a 6-on-3 that saw Dominic D’Amour scoring the tying goal at the 18:20 mark with one Komets penalized player just coming back on the ice from the penalty box. In the overtime, Chaulk would not take long to end the series scoring his third goal of the post-season. Nick Boucher made 26 saves earning the win and Tim Boron took the loss with a 36-save effort.
