WINNIPEG, Manitoba – With the regular season on the horizon and NHL training camps more or less wrapping up around the league, the Winnipeg Jets have filled the bench in St John’s with twenty three players being cut from camp.
Here are top five players being assigned to the St John’s Ice Caps
Brett Festerling, although Festerling has been around the league spending time with the Ducks and had stints in the American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs and Chicago Wolves many people thought he would make the team. Festerling will play for the Ice Caps in St John’s and may be a regular call-up.
Ivan Telegin, who is a great young prospect, played well for the Jets and had a great training camp. He showed that he still has holes in his game though. Telegin is still young and this year Telegin will be playing for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.
Jason Jaffray, an ex Manitoba Moose player was released from the Winnipeg Jets training camp as well. Jaffray is familiar with True North Sports & Entertainment and Claude Noel and he excepted his assignment and is expected to work hard in the Ice Caps training camp to try and brake that roster.
Marco Rosa, Jaffray’s Moose buddy was also assigned to the Ice Caps, Rosa was a huge star with the Manitoba Moose and will be a great addition to the Ice Caps where he will add scoring and play-making to the St John’s line up
Zach Redmond, although he captain of the Jets’ all-prospects team, he was unable to crack the Jets main roster. But he did not really expect to. Redmond will more than likely break into the St John’s roster, where he will add size and speed to the lineup.
Although many were expecting to make the Jets roster the reality is that it is very difficult to successfully compete for a roster spot in the NHL without a guaranteed contract. The potential exists for at least four of these players, with the exception of Telegin, there will be opportunities regular call-up if the Jets find the need.
