BUFFALO,N.Y.- The Winnipeg Jets knew they were in a must-win situation against a struggling Buffalo Sabres team and came through with a gutsy 2-1 victory to keep the post season dream alive.
The Jets have now beaten the Sabres six games in a row and held them to just one goal in each game.
The Sabres started back-up goalie Jhonas Enroth who was spectacular in making 37 saves including a glove save on Evander Kane during a penalty shot.
The Jets came out of the gate on a mission throwing everything they had on Enroth who almost stole this one from Winnipeg.
The Jets who were without Olli Jokinen and Zach Bogosian, two important players, got strong efforts from Antti Miettinen and Derek Meech who were thrust into action.
Goal scorers for Winnipeg were Aaron Gagnon who got his 3rd off a nifty feed from Meech and Miettinen who got his 3rd from James Wright and Mark Stuart which also proved to be the winner.
Sabres got their lone goal on the power play from Vanek his 18th from Ennis and Drew Stafford.
The Jets also lost Kyle Wellwood during the second period after he blocked a Vanek blast with his hand, after the gameitwas said he will be out long-term with an apparent broken hand.
The Jets now find themselves just a point behind the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators and the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference standings.
Winnipeg will head to Washington to play on Tuesday night in what will be the biggest game of the season for both teams as first place in the Southeast division is on the line.
It will be another must win game if the Jets want to keep the playoff dream alive!
