Jets keep it simple in win versus Red Wings

sWPG Jets logoWINNIPEG MB CAN.- The last time the Red Wings were in Winnipeg was April 1996 and everybody knows what happened after that loss . This version of the Red Wings was flying high on this western road swing with three straight wins but tonight the Jets came through with their best effort of the season with a 4-2 win.

Back-up Al Montoya got the start for Winnipeg and he was huge in the pipes making 27 saves to help his Jets snap a three-game skid.

Jimmy Howard was solid as well making 43 saves in the loss for the Red Wings.

The Jets knew they needed a huge game from everybody in the lineup and they got that and more as everybody brought their “A” games and stuck to the game plan in what could be the biggest victory of the season so far.

The Jets got goals from Bryan Little, his team leading 8th, Michael Frolik got his 3rd , Matt Halischuk picked up his 1st of the year and 1st as a Jet , Andrew Ladd potted his 4th.

The Red Wings had goals from Henrik Zetterberg his 8th, Danny DeKeyser notched his 1st NHL goal.

The third line of Frolik, Halischuk, and Mark Scheifele was the Jets’ best unit as they were flying all game.

Scheifele was the game’s first star, Frolik was the second star.

“Guys were prepared,” said Scheifele (two assists), “and I think it showed from the start of the game to the end. It was definitely big to get a lot of shots. We’ve got to stay confident, but we know it’s just one game.”

Just 16 seconds into the game Jordin Tootoo and Chris Thorburn set the tone as they squared off right after the opening faceoff and got the crowd buzzing.

The Jets played a complete game as they stayed with their system and used their speed and teased fans with hope that this team may have turned the corner.

Keaton Ellerby, playing in his first game after being acquired on the weekend, played a solid game with just under eleven minutes of ice time.

The Jets were missing Evander Kane who was a game time scratch due to a lower body injury.

Montoya may have earned another start with his strong outing in the net.

The Jets will head to the Windy City for a rematch with the Blackhawks on Wednesday night.
