RALEIGH, NC- Paul Maurice was back in familiar territory except on the visitor side for his first trip back to Carolina since being let go by them in his second go round with the club. Maurice got a special gift as his new team worked a gritty 2-1 victory to improve to 9-2 since he took over.

The Jets showed flashes of dominance but also were dominated by the Hurricanes during the game but good teams find ways to win and on this night the Jets found a way and got an important two points and moved to within two of the eighth playoff spot.

Ondrej Pavelec was great in the net stopping 28 shots and had a little help from his posts and also got some key blocks from his teammates to get the win and was also named the game’s first star.

Hurricanes goalie Anton Khudobin also was good as he stopped 25 shots and some were highlight reel stops , he showed why he was the NHL first star for the month of January.

The Jets got goals from captain Andrew Ladd who is also a former Hurricane got his 13th of the season , Chris Thorburn got the winner his 2nd of the year.

Rookie Jacob Trouba who struggled for a few shifts early but kept his cool and made a great play on the winning goal as he took a pass from Blake Wheeler and walked the blue line and took the puck down the wall behind the net and made a nice feed to Thorburn who made no mistake with the finish.http://

The Jets penalty killers came up big on a Carolina 5-on-3 advantage not allowing a shot and Adam Pardy threw his body in front of a couple of huge shots; although Carolina did hit the post on this power play but that was it and the Jets gained some huge momentum.

Winnipeg will look to continue this strong play as they head into Washington for a date with the great Eight on Thursday.
