SLOUGH, UK – The Slough Jets are pleased to announce their charity partners for the 2012/13 season as being Special People On Ice (SPICE) and Age Concern Slough And Berkshire East.
The Jets have long been associated with SPICE and enjoy a good relationship with the Absolutely Ice based charity. SPICE formed in 2002 and teach skating to young people (up to the age of 18) with special needs how . SPICE now runs it’s skating programme as well as the SPICE Jets ice hockey team and the SPICE synchro team. The SPICE Jets are coached by members of the Slough Jets and the SPICE Synchro are coached by Absolutely Ice NISA coach Louise Owen.
Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East are a local charity providing several services for older people in the area which can be delivered to them in their own homes. Most of these services are available to registered clients free of charge. Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East also offer a wide variety of clubs to meet the needs of older people in different parts of Slough and its surrounding areas. Each centre is unique and offers a full range of activities to interest older people.
SPICE is funded by BBC Children in Need, Member fees and donations and Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East is an independent charity, and not a part of Age UK.
Both charities provide vital services within the community but as the current financial situation shows little sign of improvement and people continue to be vigilant with their money times become tougher for not just our two charity partners but all charities relying on voluntary donations.
Director of Operations Steve English commented; “ The Slough Jets enjoy being a part of the local community and we are pleased to be able to give something back. Coming off the back of the charity event held to celebrate our 25th anniversary I’m pleased that we are spending the season ahead working with two great charities, SPICE and Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East ”.
English continued; “ Times are tough for everyone at the moment but that doesn’t mean the work that either of these charities do is any less essential and funding for their work and services must continue which means their sources of income cannot dry up. Hopefully we can not only help out financially through the season but also help to draw attention to both charities through the course of 2012/13 as well. ”
