READING, PA – The Reading Royals wanted to put a quick end to the Cincinnati Cyclones current reign as ECHL champs, but for at least Game One of the ECHL Eastern Conference Quarter Final Series the Cyclones came back from 2-0 deficit to score five unanswered goals from five different players to take the game 5-2 and a 1-0 series lead. Reading’s power play had more than enough opportunities but went shutout on the night going 0-8. The Royals killed off both power play chances for Cincinnati. Ryan Donald fired a snap shot home from the high slot that Matt Caurana tipped just enough to cause the puck to change direction and to elude Cincinnati goaltender Brian Foster for the first goal of the game. The Royals extended their lead to 2-0 when Andrew Sarauer shipped a saucer pass over to Chris Blight who had an open spot directly in front of the Cyclones’ net. Blight Cincinnati began the comeback 17:47 into the first. While on a delayed penalty and the goaltender pulled, the Cyclones’ Brady Calla found a seam in the right circle and cut towards the middle of the ice and fired a back-hand to cut the lead to 2-1. The Cyclones tied the game 13:17 into the second period when Ryan McLeod forced a turnover behind the Royals’ goal and fed Sam D’Agostino who was wide open in front of the net quickly shot up and over Matt Dalton to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third period. Cincinnati scored the next three goals and got the game winner from Ryan McLeod. Adam Comrie and Barrett Ehgoetz (empty net) finished off the scoring for the Cyclones.
Game Two is Wednesday night in Reading.
