Indiana errupts for win

PAPILLION, NE – The Indiana Ice opened up their first round series with Cedar Rapids looking to make a statement.  By scoring four goals in the first period, Indiana sent a strong message to the Roughriders to let them know that the Ice were not going to make this an easy best-of-five series.  Indiana forward Brent Gwidt scored twice in the first period along with Zach Golembiewski assisting the first of Gwidt’s goals and adding one of his own towards the fading minutes of the first period also assisted on the fourth goal of the opening third on a goal by Sebastian Geoffrion.
Indian would come to settle down in the second period, allowing the first Roughrider goal at 9:46 from Mike Seidel.  While the Roughriders managed to score their first of two goals in the midway through the second period, the Ice proved to be too much for Cedar Rapids.  Indiana scored two more goals in the second period from Brandon Richardson and Shane Berschbach.
While the play of the third period looked to be a formality at the start, tempers began to erupt as each team received their fair share of penalty minutes.  The Ice received four penalties for eight minutes which Cedar Rapids used to pull the goalie at the 14:00 mark that led to a short-handed dagger from the Indiana Ice and Ben Albertson.  With the 7-2 routing, the Ice took a one game lead and sent a message to Cedar Rapids that their intentions were to elevate the intensity of play.
