BOISE, Idaho, – After scoring the first goal and carrying a 2 to 1 lead into the final minutes of the third period of game six, the Colorado Eagles were unable to sustain the early momentum and were eliminated in overtime of the ECHL Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Colorado put the pressure on the Steelheads the entire first period with a strong hard hitting physical game while out shooting Idaho nine to four.

Amateur signee, Brock Nixon, gave the Eagles an early lead by slamming home a goal a mere 57 seconds into the opening period assisted by the other amateur signee, Greg Gardner, as well as Trent Daavetilla.

Leading one to nothing the second period was again dominated by the Eagles in shots on goal with Colorado taking 14 shots to 10 for the home team.

Each team added a goal in the middle frame with Austin Smith scoring for Idaho at 13:45

from Adrian Foster and Jace Coyle and Colorado getting their second of the game from Daavetilla at 18:58.

In the third period the Eagles tried to hold on to their one goal lead but a very determined Steelhead team battled hard and took eleven shots  compared to Colorado’s three and dominated possession. Colorado was able to kill off the first penalty of the period  but with Dylan Hood in the box for hooking, Andrew Carrol scored the only power play goal for either team and tied the game with slightly more than 2 minutes left in regulation.

It took a just 1:43 into overtime for Carrol to give Idaho the game winner moving the Steelheads on to the Semifinals of the ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs where they will meet the Ontario Reign.

Start dates and times for the second round are TBA.
