Idaho keeps rolling, 6-1

WEST VALLEY CITY , Utah – The scary thing about the Steelheads is they are only three games into the ECHL post season.   And they are hitting on every cylinder; this time to the tune of 6-1 over the Grizzlies.   Idaho potted the first five goals in this game, three in the first period, and cruised to the victory over the Grizzlies, who seem to be lost on the ice against the more powerful Steelheads.   John Swanson got the scoring started on the power play in the first.   It was his third of the post season.   He later put up his fourth goal of the series in the second period.   Mark McCutcheon added his third of the series in the first period followed by K evin DeVergilio who picked up his first of the post season.   The 3-0 first period lead ballooned to 5-0 in the second when Mark Derlago earned his first goal of the series before Swanson scored his fourth.   Mark Sorterberg finally broke through for Utah in the third.   But by then the game would have been called if it were a boxing match with the TKO decision given to the Steelheads.   DeVergilio added his second of the game late in the third when the Grizzlies were looking forward to game four.   Richard Bachman picked up the win for the Steelheads making 32 saves on 33 shots, though few of them were quality.   Mike Morrison was the beleaguered goalie in the Utah net, as he faced 36 shots and made 30 saves on the night.   His defense abandoned him and left him unprotected much of the night, giving Idaho second and third chances on the puck.   Game four is Friday night in Utah.   The Grizzlies need to find their game quickly Friday or the Steelheads will bury them in the first period.   Contact Lou.Lafrado@prohockeynews.com
