Hurricanes sign Checkers’ Sutter and Peters

CHARLOTTE, NC – Two of the Checkers players, Brett Sutter and Justin Peters, signed contracts with the Carolina Hurricanes ahead of the free agency frenzy of Sunday. Sutter agreed a one-year deal that will pay him $550,000 on the NHL level or $105,000 on the AHL level with a guarantee of at least $150,000.
 
Peters signed a two-year deal worth $525,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL, with a guarantee of at least $250,000 in 2012-3. He will be paid $550,000 in 2013-4.
 
Both players are 25-years old, Sutter completed his fifth professional season spending the majority of the year with the Checkers where he served as team captain.
 
Peters split the 2011-12 season between the Checkers and the Hurricanes.
 
The Hurricanes open their 2012 exhibition schedule on September 26 at Columbus, and play their first home exhibition game on September 28 against Nashville Predators.
