Hull sign 6 but lose major backer

HULL, UK – Elite League side Hull Stingrays have signed six players including two new faces for the upcoming league campaign whilst the team are looking for a new major sponsor as long time sponsor Excel step down. Player-Coach Sylvain Cloutier already had defenceman Stephen Burns signed up for a second year at the Hull Arena for the team who achieved a record amount of points last season despite being amongst the lowest spenders in the league. Cloutier has added American Josh Mizerek to his blueline and also added a Captain’s C to Mizerek’s jersey for the coming season. Mizerek joins the team from HYS The Hague where Mizerek has been a high scoring utility player wearing the captains letter for the past three seasons as an outstanding player in the Dutch league. Also new to the Elite League is Canadian Chris Korchinski, who joins from the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. Korchinski has been linked with numerous Elite League clubs in recent weeks but looks to be a key part of the Stingrays’ forawrd lines. Also on the books at the Rays next season will be returning back up netminder Andrew Jazcsyck who achieved a respectable 87.7% save percentage, around mid range for Elite League back up netminders. The Rotherham native begins his 4th season with the senior teams. Also back are young British trio Lee Mitchell, Craig Mitchell and Lee Esders. Lee Mitchell was the only Stingray to feature in the 2010 Great Britain World Championship team whilst both Craig Mitchell and Esders were members of the GB Under 20 team last season. Meanwhile, Excel have pulled their support for financial reasons for next season leaving owners Sue and Mike Pack frantically searching for new sponsors with the new season getting ever closer.
