PHILADELPHIA, PA – According to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio, Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren has signed a 3-year contract extension with the team. Holmgren has been the GM since October 2006 and has one of the better teams in the NHL ever since.
The team is very much a Holmgren-built squad having been with the team as head scout prior to taking over as GM. The Flyers’ success will be determined over the next few years based mostly on trades and free agent signings. Holmgren traded for Chris Pronger, Braydon Coburn, and Ville Leino while signing free agents Kimmo Timonen, Scott Hartnell, Sergei Bobrovsky, and Sean O’Donnell. Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Andres Nodl, and Claude Giroux were all drafted by the Flyers.
“I am extremely grateful to Mr. Snider and to Peter Luukko for this contract extension,” Holmgren said on the Flyers website. “I look forward to working closely with them, the coaches and our players in pursuit of our goal of winning the Stanley Cup.”
According to published reports the deal is worth $4.5 million a year.
