Greenville Road Warriors-The season ahead

GREENVILLE , NC – Dean Stork, Head Coach of the Greenville Road Warriors, has strong policies regarding his team, a defensive structure that takes care of the puck; you have to protect your own zone.

This 36 year old, second year head coach in Greenville, SC has stringent opinions on coaching. A defensive player himself, with experience gleaned over playing 14 seasons, Stork concentrates on the defensive aspect of the game.

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta and raised in Penticton, British Columbia Stork is very excited about the Road Warriors for the up-coming season.  ”We have a different team from last season having lost some players,” he explains “I can guarantee we will be strong defensively and fun to watch,”

Last season 2010-11 saw the Road Warriors notch 46 wins. “We had a good first season” explains Stork. One of the reasons for this is that Stork really cares about the players on an individual basis. “Every player that takes to the ice for the Road Warriors knows exactly what his job is. Every day in training we watch videos, emphasizing the defensive side of the game. Coaching today is a very personal thing, I take care of the players on a one to one basis, this is very important.”

Players have their physicals on October 3, they start training October 4. The season opens on Friday, October 14 with a home game against Welling Nailers, face off 7;35p.m.. The next evening the Reading Royals are in town, face off 7.05p.m.

Dean Stork played collegiately at University of Massachusetts, where he graduated with a degree in Sports Management. He holds the record for goals in a season by a defenseman – nine. Dean played 441 games in the ECHL, scored 32 goals and had 105 assists.

To emphasize Stork’s thinking the Road Warriors signed defensemen Wes Cunningham, T.J. Fast and Jeff Caister. They also strengthened their front line by re-signing Connor Shields and Brandon Wong and have aslo brought in Brett Robinson, a left forward from Alton, Ontario.

President, General Manager and Governor of the Greenville Road Warriors, Neil Smith is about to celebrate his eighth season in the ECHL. His wealth of experience that includes President and General Manager of the New York Rangers is outstanding, under his presidency the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994.

The Greenville Road Warriors are in great hands with two outstanding men at the helm. Stork says “we can safely say that come play-off time the Road Warriors will be on peoples lips.”
