WASHINGTON, DC – Feeling some pressure to win game four of their series with the New York Rangers, the Caps came out and ground out a 3-2 win to even their best-of-seven round two match-up.
The two teams had combined for nearly a full two-game set on Wednesday night when the Rangers claimed a 2-1 3 OT win over the Caps.
Caps defenseman Mike Green was presented with a slapshot opportunity on the power play late in the match that beat Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist for the final margin of victory.
Earlier in the game, the Caps had taken a 1-0 lead after the first twenty minutes of play on a goal from Alex Ovechkin who was the beneficiary of an errant pass from Ranger rookie Chris Kreider.
Ovechkin may get a look see from the NHL offices after a hit on Ran=ger defenseman Dan Girardi and a hit to the D-man’s head by the Caps captain.
In the second period, both teams traded goals until the session ended with both clubs tied at two apiece.
Artem Anisimov got New York even at one with a goal at 1:10 o0f the second. Nicklas Backstrom gave the lead back to the Caps ten minutes later to make it 2-1.
Marian Gaborik tied things up about five minutes later to send the clubs to the dressing room tied at two after forty minutes.
The two teams now head for Madison Square Garden for game five in the series.
