QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Nathan MacKinnon and Francois Brassard respectively of the Rimouski Oceanic, the Halifax Mooseheads and the Quebec Remparts, earns the distinction of being named the Telus three stars of the week for the period between November 28th to December 4th.
In two games, the Oceanic defenseman accumulated 7 points (4g-3a). Beginning his week last Tuesday with a game against the Gatineau Olympiques, the Buffalo Sabres third round selection in 2010 ended the game with 2 goals 1 assist earning the third stars of the game in a 6-3 wins. Rimouski totally dominated the shots on goals against Gatineau 53-13.
Playing his second game against Chicoutimi the Quebec native, earned the first stars of the game following a 2 goals 2 assists performance equaling his own records in a 5-4 victory.
For his performance of 5 goals and one assist between the November 28th and December 4th, the young phenomenon Nathan MacKinnon has been elected the QMJHL second stars. In a 5-3 win over the Gatineau Olympiques, MacKinnon recorded one assist ending the game with a +1.
Being kept out of the scoring sheet in Quebec, the right winger make sure it was a different story when his team faced off against Quebec in Metro Center last Saturday in a 6-4 wins over the Remparts, ending the game with 5 goals scoring last four in last 30 minutes of the game. The meeting between these two teams has been the chance for people in the attendance to see two of greatest stars in the QMJHL in Mikhail Grigorenko and MacKinnon.
MacKinnon 5 goals performance equaled a team record established in 2001 by Jason King. The Nova Scotia native ended his week with 5 goals 1 assist and a plus/minus of +5.
Finally, the QMJHL third star went to Quebec netminder Francois Brassard for his performances against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and the Prince Edward Island Rocket.
Designated as the starting netminder against Cape Breton in last Thursday night game, the one who had been ranked sixth in the top ten goaltenders in November International Scouting Services list made 22 saves on Screaming Eagles 23 shots in a 7-1 win earning the first stars of that game.
Close of earning his first shutout in the QMJHL career, Brassard was beaten by Cape Breton right winger Logan Shaw for the only Screaming Eagle goal of that game breaking Brassard’s bid for first career shutout.
In last Sunday’s game against Prince Edward Island, the Gatineau native made 38 saves on Rocket 39 shots on goal coming out as the first stars of the game in a 3-1 win.
With a 2.50 G.A.G. and save percentage of.920 Brassard dominates rookie goalies in that department.
